Roots

I returned to my roots with a visit and workshop in the Repin's Russian Academy of Art in Saint Petersburg. Besides the many photos I brought from this trip, I also received an awareness of the many years of Russian intellectualism and the culture of the ages. The work of many of the present day Russian artists in the local museums is connected to the traditions of the stunning art of the Masters. I was lucky to meet young, but talented artists who were teaching the workshop. The painting teacher was Konstantin Grachev, who was superior in the aspect of teaching the students to create individual characters by applying correct color on the canvas. Drawing skill was taught by Gennady Isaew, young in age, but very interesting as an artist. The most fun for all of us students was to work with plain art artist, Ivan Vituk, who not only taught us how to paint, but how to see beauty in every color and shape. His enthusiasm and energy gave our painting experience a new and exciting note.
